Are You Settling for Less From Your Marketing Strategy?
In today’s "Pick the Brain" blog, they asked their readers if we had "settled." They went through a series of symptoms like wishing the time away, hard to get up in the morning, dreaming of a completely different life. As I read through these, they actually reminded me of real-life experiences I’d had in companies.
Most of the businesses I’ve worked for, in and with were manufacturers that perceive themselves to be in the business of making things, selling things and shipping things – in that order. And when you look at your world from that perspective – it becomes easy to find yourself in what I call a "settling rut." It’s hard to get excited when you’re on the "George Jetsonm treadmill" of life.
I think that sometimes I view it as a personal mission to get the organizations I work with truly excited about who they are, what they do and the "joy" they bring to their customers. If you’re thinking that it’s hard to bring joy with widgets – think again. Our lives are made infinately better by small insignificant products that work well. Still stuck – you don’t really think about the stapler, until it starts mangling your papers. You don’t really think about e-mail, until yours goes down for a day. You might not get excited about painting a room, until you experience poor qualtiy paint that clumps, and then experience the joy of a paint that makes your work look like you’ve been a professional painter for years.
So, this weekend, ask yourself if you’re settling for less from your marketing. Are you settling for less in finding new opportunities for products and services you’ve worked hard for? Are you settling for less in NOT selling new things that your existing customers would love and that would ultimately bring them joy as they use your product or service?
Don’t settle for less – you’re better than that.
