DIY Marketing: Get Focused on Your Goals by Drawing and Multiplying

A few weeks ago I went into a turbo planning session with Norma Rist from (Boardroomgroup4women.com).  Norma is an  Athena Award winner, women's business leader and overall expert on all practical aspects of launching and running a profitable business.

After the standard 30-second (that turns into the 3 minute) description of your business, Norma asked the group to draw out what their business would look like with revenues of $1 million or more.

I put the number $1 million at the top of my paper and started drawing out the offerings that I currently have and then started multiplying the general price I came up with with what I thought might be a conservative estimate of the number of "units" sold.

If you haven't done anything like this – I would highly recommend it.  I was astounded and amazed how just a few items done well would easily yield $1 million in additional revenues.

I wanted to share with you how motivated and focused I have become since I did this exercise.  I'm not a huge fan of complex business and marketing plans.  I typically do a one-page plan for myself.  But the process of drawing out my goals and the elements that would feed into those goals was the most focusing and inspiring experience I've had in a long time.

By the way – this entire process took about  5 minutes.  I'm NOT kidding.  These were things I had been stewing about for a while.  I had just never taken 5 MINUTES (that's all) to put them on paper.

That’s a great process, Ivana. Envisioning it via drawing and writing it down is a great start toward business growth.
