I don't know why every business owner gets obsessed with getting more and more customers.  Personally, I'd like to have a small well balanced group of customers that just keep buying and buying and buying.

I first heard this from Dan Kennedy and have been repeating it ever since:

"Most people sell stuff so that they can have customers.  We have customers so we can sell them stuff."

This puts the focus of your marketing strategy squarely on your customers wants and what you need to do to get them to spend more time and money with you.

Here are a few Product Strategies you can use that will help you sell more stuff to fewer customers.

  1. Money Back Guarantee: I've just purchased a DVD product where they offered a 100% money-back guarantee WITHOUT returning the product!  Most people don't spend more because they are afraid they won't like it. The best part about this strategy is all you have to do is make it so – no R&D or expense required.  Just keep delivering good stuff.
  2. Develop or Show Additional Uses for the Product: Think about Arm and Hammer Baking Soda.  For every new use for that simple product, you buy another box.  One for the fridge, one for the freezer, one to cook with, and so on…
  3. Bundle or Value Pack: Take a look at what will be a good match for the core product you're offering, and offer those additional products as a bundle.  Customer comes in to buy tablets of paper, sell them pens and folders.

What are some of your successful product strategies for getting customers to buy more stuff?
