Moving a Blog is a Learning Experience

I'm in the process of making MAJOR changes to my web site(s) and my blog.  So, over the next few weeks, you're going to be noticing some changes.

I've made the decision to combine my web site and my blog into a single space and I'm going to be doing that via a WordPress Platform.

I've got the all the blog entries copied over to the new format, I'm just not ready to take you all there quite yet, so I'm still blogging here for the time being.

One thing I've learned about myself is how painfully visual I am.  Even though I made the attempt to map things out, I've found myself tweaking and changing what I planned.  Sometimes the changes were for the better and sometimes not.  But I find myself still playing around with different formats.

It's a good thing so many platforms are so flexible.  This has allowed me to enter text and graphics, change layout designs, themes and templates and see what I like and what I don't.

I'm moving over to WordPress because I want my web site, new membership site and blog to all be on the same platform – and so far, I've decided on WordPress.

I started a blog on WordPress but then switched to Typepad, now I'm going back to WordPress – mostly because it's so flexible and because my new membership site is based in WordPress.  I'm not very technically astute – so I'd like to keep them all the same.

Over the last couple weeks, I've been working hard on learning the new WordPress and this week, I've signed on to a trial of Extreme Member (membership management software).  Even with the painstaking efforts Shane Goldberg has made with making this easy to use, I've had my challenges.

Stay tuned and watch the move.  I'll be keeping you posted as we go.  And look for product reviews and experience reports about Extreme Member either here or at my other home SmallBizTrends.

    Good luck with the move!

Good luck with the move. I started using wordpress for blogging then realized you could have static pages like a regular website. So wordpress is great for both. I also created a membership site using Extreme Member, launched it a couple weeks ago, and it’s worked well. After months of trying moodle, amember, etc and looking at hiring companies to set up the membership sites, extreme member has everything that is normally required.
