Pressure is a Privilege – Are You Doing the Most With What You Have?
Image via WikipediaBilly Jean King has a new book out called "Pressure is a Privilege." She said that she doesn't like to look at stress as stressful, she looks at it as pressure. And being pressured to be your best and to do your best is actually a privilege or an opportunity. She said that at first she was nervous about playing against Bobby Riggs, but then she realized what an opportunity she had and what a privilege it was to be in the position to play a tennis champion.
This point of view can make all the difference in how we go about actually achieving our goals. And it made me wonder about how many opportunities I've missed simply because I perceived stress rather than pressure to be my best and to take advantage of an opportunity.
How many times was I more concerned about the board meeting and what the board wanted to see rather than the optimum solution to the challenge at hand. Yet, when I look back on those situations, I wonder what I missed because I was afraid of how I would be perceived.
- What are the stresses in your business?
- In what ways can this be an opportunity for you?
- What would you have to do, how would you have to be and who would you have to be to take advantage of this opportunity?
- What resources would you need to help you take advantage of this opportunity?

The context is decisive. You are dead on here, Ivana. Great reminder – thanks!
