I agree Starbucks is overpriced, but spelling convoluted as “confoluted,” seriously damages the persuasiveness of the article.

Greetings from a Panera. I totally agree with you. I’ve recently gotten annoyed that I can’t order a cup of black coffee at Starbucks without specifying if I want room for milk or not. If I wanted room, I would say it. Worst case scenario with a “no-room” assumption: someone would need to dump out a little coffee after forgetting to ask for it. Of course, their cups tend to drip coffee on me when I carry them, so sometimes a little room would be nice, but it’s linguistically imprecise to ask for “room for milk” when I just want “room-to-avoid-third-degree-burns.”
Also, the music at Panera is bland, boring… and perfect for working. At Starbucks, I’m constantly trying to identify the song or the artist. At Panera, I can focus on my work and let the easy listening pap pass over me.
I’d prefer to do my work in a locally owned coffee shop, maybe one with better coffee and healthier food. Until one arrives in my area, Panera is the way to go.

I completely agree with everything you say here. You saved me a blog post. I’m at Panera right now early on a Saturday morning and as a teacher/blogger, I am relieved in advance to know I won’t be interrupted while I work (there’s space!), that some crazy music by the “Acid Junkies” or something won’t blare at me and, that I can refill as needed w/o charge. Breeds gratitude and appreciation.
