A Presentation on PowerPoint Designed to Inspire and Educate and NOT Kill
Over the next month or so I’m going to be doing more speaking and presenting than I’ve done all last year! Â Like every other skill — if you don’t use it, you lose it. Â Quite frankly, I’m feeling a little rusty.
I’ll be doing one LIVE presentation at this year’s BizCamp (using PowerPoint) and I’ll be doing two webinars hosted by some BIG TIME professionals (also with PowerPoint). Â The first webinar will be with SBTV.com for the NFIB (a HUGE association of small business owners) and the second will be with QuestionPro and Survey Analytics (another HUGE organization serving small business owners).
These audiences have two things in common; they are savvy business owners and they are no BS kinds of people looking for actionable information. Â I intend to deliver exactly that. Â But I also want to show them what’s possible with PowerPoint and that it doesn’t have to be boring, text laden and drab while it’s being informative and educational.
Inspiration
I go to two places for inspiration:
- Presentation Zen (the blog): This is written by Garr Reynolds. Â I ran into the book at the book store, then became a fan of the blog. Â Garr does an amazing job of putting together information in an engaging way and the blog is full of examples and tips. Â In fact — I’m sharing the slideshow that’s inspiring me right now:
- Slideshare.com. Â This is another inspiration source I use quite a bit. Â In fact, it’s how I ran across Garr’s presentation because it was among those voted “all time best”. Â You can search by keyword or browse favorites in an area you’re interested in. Â You’ll get lots of ideas of what works for you and what doesn’t.
- TED Talks. Â If you’re not familiar with the TED Talks - then head over there as soon as you can. Â Their tag line is “Riveting Talks by Remarkable People”. Â Since I aspire to both of these (and I’m sure you do too) – I like to visit to see how remarkable people present information and themselves.
How do you inspire yourself and what resources do you use to pull together awesome presentations — share please – I can use all the help I can get.
