My latest post on AMEX Open Forum lists 10 signals that you’re ignoring your marketing strategy.  The key point of the article is to FEEL like you are over-doing it.  You and your whole organization should feel like you are talking too much about what you offer.  You should feel like you are constantly repeating yourself and bringing out the same benefits over and over.  This is a good thing.

Here is a list of just the points I made in the article, you’ll have to head over there to get the details.

1.  You Google your company’s name and/or product and a competitor’s site is listed WAY ahead of yours.

2.  You’ve lost more than one customer because of “price.”

3.  Your phones aren’t ringing like they used to.

4.  Your salespeople are “complaining” about how hard it is to get in front of prospects
.

5.  You don’t have a marketing plan (even a 1-pager).

6.  Your website hasn’t been updated in at least three years.

7.  You have more versions of products than customers buying them
.

8.  You aren’t getting referrals.

9.  You’re losing good employees.

10.  You haven’t launched any new products or services in the last three years.

Ignoring marketing is most common when business is tough, and you have to make sure that every customer is happy.  But it’s just that kind of fire-fighting that puts your future success at risk.  So, don’t be afraid to put your marketing hat on.  And remember, if it doesn’t feel like you’re overdoing it, you’re not doing enough.

Ivana, Great blog and great insight. I own a b-to-b marketing agency and have a White Paper on “Why Mid-Size Manufacturers Need to Pay Attention to Marketing”. Although you may feel we may be competitors, fact is, small and mid-size firms need help, insight, and need to be pushed to pay more attention to marketing, as you espouse. Well, if you’d like a copy of the PDF I can send it; not sure how to attach it here. Again, great blog and nicely designed. Thanks, Joe
